Last week I had the opportunity to meet with Kata Escott, the UK Head of Airbus Defence and Space.
Airbus are a leading Defence Prime and play a significant role within the UK Defence industry and eco-system. They are the UK’s military satellite communications partner.
By now I’m sure most of you will be aware of my proposal to establish a Defence Technology Cluster at RAF Wyton using the surplus MOD land adjacent to the current base. As part of promoting those plans I’ve met with many leading firms to explain what we are hoping to create and ensure we are firmly on their radar with regards to their potential future location strategies.
With the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI) located at Wyton there could be huge opportunities for Airbus, and companies like them, to become part of the project and locate themselves alongside what we would hope will become the vanguard of defence and intelligence technological capability in the UK.
I will continue to keep promoting Huntingdon and pitching for firms like Airbus to invest in this area, with the aim of creating an industry that can provide highly skilled jobs and fantastic long-term job prospects and career opportunities.
