Great to visit the Aurora Fairway School in St Ives today meeting with Headteacher Julie Sadler, The Aurora Group CEO Kelvin Donald and Strategy Director Dan Slater and Midlands Region Operations Director Tony Wray.
Aurora Fairway is a specialist school for pupils aged 11–16 with social, emotional and mental health needs, autism, and communication difficulties.
The school has 49 pupils at present and 98% of Post-16 leavers move into further education, training or work.
With the current lack of specialist SEN provision locally referrals usually come via the local authority but families can refer directly to the school, though it is currently at full capacity.
The school has plans to expand with an additional 21 places by using an area of unused land at the rear of the next door St Ivo School. This expansion has stalled slightly owing to complications with some of the other public sector stakeholders such as DfE and Sport England and as such I will write to the Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, in order to push for a resolution.
