Great to meet with Paul and Mags at Huntingdon First BID to talk about the town centre and what we can do to enhance the look and feel and bring more events and attractions to the town.
The BID team are doing some great work in making visiting the town centre a good experience. There are some fantastic and ambitious plans for the town centre including Paul’s plan to bring an independent cinema. We’re conscious that there’s little I. The way of a night-time economy in the town centre and that this is an area where it would be nice to see progress.
We discussed the old Poundland building and the recent discovery of a cannabis farm being run by an organised crime gang. Given the scale of the bust there should be funds available to the town via the proceeds of crime. This money could be reinvested into the town.
We also discussed the BID levy, the small sum of money each business in the town centre pays annually in order to reinvest into the BID itself and help improve the town. There are dozens of businesses in the town who haven’t paid the levy yet from last October. I’ll be writing to each of these businesses to ask why they haven’t paid.
And don’t forget it’s the last Beats & Bites of the summer this Friday in the Market Square ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend.
