It was great to visit Brampton Village Primary School to speak to the head teacher and governors about the challenges faced by the school. It was also great to meet some of the Year 6s and hear about how much they enjoy the school and their favourite activities. Very surprised to hear they do the NFL as a sporting option.
Sitting down with the new head teacher Chris Hill he outlined the issues the school has encountered around Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision. This is an issue I have heard from teachers about in all schools across the constituency, particularly with regards to the slow rate of processing for Educational Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNA) and Plans (EHCP); many of which are falling well outside the statutory timelines.
I will be meeting Cambridgeshire County Council in the coming weeks to discuss the SEN issues as the volume of correspondence I’m receiving on the subject has substantially increased.
The Government will shortly be changing how SEN provision is delivered with their forthcoming white paper and I will be raising local concerns and requirements directly to the Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, as part of this process.
