I’ve been out looking at some of the available shop units in Huntingdon that may be appropriate for a constituency office in the town centre.
Having an office on the high street was one of my pledges prior to being elected and I’m conscious that it’s something that I still need to deliver on.
Finding an office has been hugely challenging, with a mix of a lack of availability, properties being outside of the budget Parliament allows and ensuring a property meets the requirements for the security of my staff, addresses accessibility needs as well as having a high street presence.
There has recently been an increase in the number of properties available in the Town Centre and we are working hard to make one of these the constituency office. The I dependent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) who cover the costs of parliamentary offices are working with me as an experimental test case to trial a new lease arrangement and I am hopeful that this will be the key to clearing g some of the hurdles that the current process involves. As ever, I will keep you updated on progress.
