Earlier this week I visited the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust at their Hinchingbrooke Hospital station.
The service has 145 stations, stretching out across the East of England, to Norfolk, Suffolk and down to the Essex coast too.
Discussing operations with its Chief Executive, Neill Moloney we covered a range of issues including the funding allocation challenges that the ambulance service faces. With 3% growth funding in 2025/26 but with 6.5-7% actual growth services are required to do more with less. I will look to raise this with the Health Secretary.
There are also plans to recruit more community first responders to be able to provide an urgent response to critical patients and the issue of the Views Common access road as part of the hospital rebuild is an ongoing issue as this would mean site traffic wouldn’t hamper the deployment of ambulances. Having already raised this directly with the Health Secretary it is an issue I will seek to pursue.
