This week is Farm Safety Week.
I was pleased to meet with Megan Bailey, the Farm Safety coordinator for the Farm Safety Foundation - Yellow Wellies, a charity working throughout the UK to address the attitudes and behaviours to farm safety and poor mental health in the next generation of farmers.
Farming accounts for 1% of the working population but an alarming 16% of all workplace deaths. A total of 23 farm workers and 4 members of the public, including two children, have lost their lives on British farms over the past year.
With a large number of farms and agricultural industry across the constituency and widely in Cambridgeshire and the local area, it’s hugely important to ensure that farm safety is taken seriously and promoted.
