It was great to welcome the Man Van to Parliament today in order to raise awareness of early prostate cancer diagnosis.
The Man Van was offering PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) tests, a simple blood test, to eligible men - MPs, Lords, staff and those working in Parliament - in order to increase awareness and encourage uptake as well as lobbying the Government to invest in a national screening programme.
As Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Prostate Cancer I will continue to raise and highlight the need for better and more regular screening for men.
The risk of developing prostate cancer is much higher in older men, those with a family history of the illness and those from an ethnic minority background, particularly Black men for whom the likelihood of developing the illness is doubled. As someone who falls into all three categories this is a topic close to my heart.
