I had the chance to meet with the team at Grafham Water following the long period of dry weather we’ve experienced (until this weekend).
As you can see from the picture, water levels have dropped significantly in the reservoir as rainfall hasn’t replenished levels. Levels in the reservoir now have been lower at this point than they were during the past significantly dry period in 2022.
The low levels aren’t currently an issue but a dry winter would mean concerns going into next year. Incredibly despite its size the reservoir can be replenished from pumping water in at a rate of 2% a day.
Graham Water is also more than just a reservoir, it’s also a park containing everything from a Site of Special Scientific Interest, bird-watching, sailing, open-water swimming, trail-walking, miniature golf and cycling. I’m a regular user of the park myself and highly recommend it for a chance to enjoy the outdoors.
The refurbishment of the Visitor Centre will take place later this year, so do look out for that too.
