Kimbolton veterans honoured by Hollywood star!
It was a real privilege to meet actor Gary Sinise today. If you’ve seen Forest Gump (he played “Lieutenant Dan”) or Apollo 13 then you’ll be familiar with Gary’s films.
Gary is currently filming a documentary about the USAAF 379th Bombardment Group who were based at Station 117 Kimbolton Airfield during the Second World War from May 1943 to July 1945, on what is now the karting circuit. The group flew 330 combat missions over Europe during that time. Gary’s uncle, Jack Sinise, was a B-17 navigator and flew 30 missions with the 379th from Kimbolton.
Gary visited the former airfield, was shown the artefacts recovered from the airfield by some of our local historical experts and courtesy of the Royal British Legion was then able to lay a wreath at the Kimbolton Airfield memorial.
