It was fantastic to hear about the work the school has been doing, particularly their project to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the school’s foundation.
I was also grilled by the School Council on what it’s like to be a Member of Parliament. Some fun and very insightful questions asked by the pupils.
It was also a crucial opportunity to meet with the school’s SEN co-ordinating and hear about the challenges caused by the huge delays to EHCP and EHCNAs for pupils. This is an issue that consistently crops up at schools across the constituency and I will shortly meet with Cambridgeshire County Council in order to establish what the proposed solution should be.
The school also gave me an overview of their playground project. The school needs a Multi-Use Games Area but its progress is subject to a significant Biodiversity Net Gain payment. I have written to Cllr Tom Sanderson, Huntingdonshire District Council’s Executive Member for Planning, to ask for the payment to be mitigated in order to allow the school to deliver the resources that it desperately needs.
A fantastic visit and I hope that I can help to resolve the challenges the school is currently facing.
