Discussing the Defence Technology Cluster
Yesterday I had the opportunity to hold a private meeting with the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Matthew Pennycook and his team.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government we discussed two topics that will have a defining influence over the future of Huntingdonshire, Project FAIRFAX, the planned Defence Technology Cluster at RAF Wyton, and Local Government Reorganisation.
It was hugely productive to put across the case for the importance of the Defence Technology Cluster and the need for liaison between the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Defence in order to make sure the land at RAF Wyton, designated as an MOD Trailblazer site, isn’t prioritised for housing as it was originally intended due to a lack of communication between government departments.
I was also able to out across the case that in order for the Defence Technology Cluster to be delivered Option E and a Huntingdonshire unitary authority will be the only effective way of achieving it.
The conversation was very positive and I await further updates of the outcome of the department’s decision in LGR in June.
