I was proud to work with Prostate Cancer UK this week, delivering a letter to Health Secretary Wes Streeting asking the Government to take urgent action to overhaul outdated NHS guidelines, so that GPs can start potentially lifesaving conversations with men at the highest risk of prostate cancer.
Alongside Parliamentary colleagues from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Prostate Cancer, Calvin Bailey MBE MP, Josh Babarinde OBE MP and Lord Darren Mott OBE as well as Junior Hemans, Chair of Prostate Cancer UK’s Black Men's Health Advisory Group we delivered a co-signed letter to the Department for Health and Social Care.
As someone in a high risk group due to age and ethnicity, as well as having a family history of the disease, I know how vital it is to ensure you are tested regularly; at least annually. I would urge anyone in a higher risk group does get themselves checked. 1-in-8 men will be diagnosed with the disease. That number doubles to 1-in-4 for Black men.
