It was a huge privilege to have the opportunity to visit Woodgreen.
As the owner of a rescue dog myself (and I’m sure many of you have seen me out and about with her) I’ve long been a firm believer in the value of adopting. I’ve been eager to visit Woodgreen since becoming the MP and it was fantastic to eventually be able to do so.
The charity really is an incredible place and do a huge amount to rehome not only the dogs they are known for but also cats, rabbits and even rats. There are some touching stories and some incredibly sad ones too but it is fantastic to hear so many success stories.
One of the lesser known roles they play is one of community outreach. Their 6 outreach officers and 4 community support officers cover a 20-mile radius that takes in Cambridge, Peterborough and Bedford.
Last year they supported 6,296 pets, attended 670 wellbeing and health checks, 676 home visits and supported 1,111 pets through their subsidised pet care fund.
Anyone can contact the team for advice and a Health and Well ring check for their pet. You can find them on here Woodgreen Pets Charity or online at:

My thanks to Charis for showing me round the charity and also allowing me to meet some of their incredible current residents. If you are looking for a new pet I highly recommend making an appointment to pay them a visit. Heartwarming stuff!
