Earlier this week I visited RAF Wyton, now part of the newly established Cyber and Specialist Operations Command, to discuss the future of the site, the expansion of its role as the home of Defence Intelligence and, crucially, the opportunity to develop the surplus MOD land on the site around the now disused runway, which has been designated as an MOD Trailblazer site.
The meeting saw local stakeholders and representatives from HDC, the CPCA and senior officers from the Cyber and Specialist Operations Command, discuss the options for how to make the site bring the maximum benefit locally.
By now you’ll hopefully have heard me pitch this idea in Parliament to anyone who’ll listen including the Chancellor and the Prime Minister, with positive responses from both.
There is a real opportunity to deliver a Defence Technology Cluster here, with good jobs, opportunities to develop a highly-skilled workforce through local schools and colleges, and to ensure that if this area is to grow it will bring with it an industry that will benefit local people and the country.
I will continue to bang the drum for this idea and continue to garner support from the Government and the Defence industry. I’m passionate about delivering this and believe it will be an incredible opportunity for this area.
